LEVEL 1 (A1)

Level 1 is designed for students who need basic Italian knowledge. The course provides students with a foundation and basic tools to interact effectively in everyday Italian. Students can expect to master simple sentences to hold beginning level conversations.

GRAMMAR: Alphabet, Nouns, Adjectives, Prepositions, Verbs to be and to have, Present tense (Regular and Irregular Verbs)

LEVEL 2 (A1+)

Engaging students in more advanced beginning conversation and writing skills, Level 2 is designed for those who want to go beyond a basic knowledge and understanding of Italian grammar. Students study the language through in-class oral and written exercises.

GRAMMAR: Present Continuous, Direct object pronouns, Reflexive and Reciprocal verbs, Present perfect

LEVEL 3 (A2)

Focusing on the future tenses and new vocabulary, students engage in extended conversations. Level 3 reinforces the basic rules of grammar and introduces new tenses and how to use them. Video and song are incorporated into the class to continue learning a more modern Italian.

GRAMMAR: Future tense, Indirect object pronouns, Verb to like, Imperfect, Difference between present perfect and imperfect

LEVEL 4 (B1)

Students master the present, past, and future tenses to fine-tune their conversation skills. By the end of Level 4 students grasp the breadth and depth of Italian grammar and are able to apply it in different situations.

GRAMMAR: Comparatives and superlatives, Conditional present and past, Double objects pronouns

LEVEL 5 (B1+)

Level 5 enables students to converse with native Italian speakers, to tell stories, and effectively summarize a movie or article. Students study advanced grammar, such as subjunctive tenses. The class is dedicated to focus on increasing the fluidity of conversation.

GRAMMAR: Adverbs, Subjunctive present/past/imperfect/past perfect, Particles ci and ne, Imperative, Impersonal Construction

Wednesday        6:30 pm – 8:30 pm         July 10 – August 28  (8 weeks)

 

LEVEL 6 (B2)

Students learn complex idiomatic sentences combined with conditional and subjunctive tenses to express themselves – all put into practice during in-class conversation and writing exercises. Students can express ideas, read a variety of texts, and interact with ease in Italian with classmates and the teacher.

GRAMMAR: If clauses, Relative pronouns che and cui, Past Perfect, Formal imperative

LEVEL 7 (B2+)

Students master the various forms of the tenses that are commonly used in spoken and written Italian, at a near-native level. Assignments in reading, writing, and oral presentations give students the tools to communicate in every given situation.

GRAMMAR: Passive Voice, Historical past, Indefinites, Sequence of tenses in the indicative

LEVEL 8 (C1)

You made it! Level 8 faces all hypothetical constructions, combining gerunds, conditionals, and subjunctive tenses including pronouns and direct/indirect objects. Students exhibit mastery over the language: they can write professional letters as well as give public speeches without any doubts or fears. With this class you can call yourself “a true Italian”; nothing will scare you anymore. You can pack your suitcase and move to Italy.

GRAMMAR: Indirect Speech in present and past tenses, Past anterior

CANCELLATION POLICY

GROUP CLASSES: All requests for full refunds (minus a non-refundable deposit of $40) must be submitted to Collina Italiana by email and received by CI prior to the first day of class. Prorated refunds are allowed after the first class but no refund is given after the second class. There is a $20 fee for mid-semester class changes. Please take into consideration that CI does not prorate any fee for missed classes: you can schedule a 1-1hour private lesson for $45 as a make-up class.

PRIVATE CLASSES: The fee is charged in full if cancellation is made less than 24 hours in advance.

  1. My daughter is doing a college term abroad next semester in Italy and is looking to learn beginning Italian. She only has the month of July to study. Is there any class or program you would recommend?
